DAVIDSON, N.C. – December 9, 2011 – Ingersoll Rand, a global leader in compressed air technology, is pleased to announce that its Class 0 certifications have been updated to comply with the ISO 8573-1 Class 0 2010 standard. The certifications were granted to the entire range of Ingersoll Rand air-cooled and water-cooled oil-free rotary screw compressors (37 to 350 kW / 50 to 450 hp) and water-cooled, oil-free centrifugal compressors (160 to 5,000 kW / 200 to 6,700 hp) by TÜV Rheinland®, a global leader in independent testing and assessment services.
Air purity is essential to many critical processes in industries such as pharmaceutical, food and beverage, electronics and textile. In 2001, the Class 0 certification was created in response to industry needs for oil-free air. Class 0 is the most stringent air quality class and certifies that a compressor discharges air free of added oil aerosols, vapors and liquids. Ingersoll Rand has held this prestigious certification on both its oil-free centrifugal and rotary screw air compressor technologies since 2007.
Ingersoll Rand was the first manufacturer in the world to be certified Class 0 for centrifugal air compressors. “This recertification to the latest revision of the Class 0 standard demonstrates Ingersoll Rand’s leadership in complying with the latest technical standards in the industry. The rigorous tests performed shows our commitment to providing best-in-class equipment for our customers,” said Paul Maguire, Portfolio Manager for Ingersoll Rand.
Ingersoll Rand oil-free compressors not only provide purer air, but save customers time and money while improving their productivity. They reduce maintenance costs by minimizing the need for lubricating oil, inline filters and oil/air separator components. By providing pure air, free from additional contaminants, Ingersoll Rand oil-free compressors minimize downtime associated with cleaning filters and other air system components. Reduced levels of contaminants also help air system components last longer and ensure higher overall product quality.
Oil-contaminated air can spoil and ruin products, creating significant losses of revenue and customer trust. Ingersoll Rand oil-free technology can help reduce these risks. Ingersoll Rand oil-free rotary screw and centrifugal air compressors also help manufacturers comply with environmental standards such as ISO 14001 and EU requirements. Since filtration components and condensate are oil-free, they do not require special treatment, making them easier to dispose.
Class 0 is just one of the many ways in which Ingersoll Rand helps its customers continue to meet their high manufacturing quality standards while reducing waste, inefficiencies and their environmental footprint.
