Ingersoll Rand Announces Sponsorship Agreement with CW Restoration Shop

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Nov. 20, 2012 — Ingersoll Rand®, a global leader in professional tools and equipment, has reached a sponsorship agreement between its vehicle services division and custom automotive designer CW Restoration Shop in Huntington Beach, Calif. Under the terms of the agreement, Ingersoll Rand will provide compressed air solutions and vehicle service tools to support the growing shop and its transition from solvent-based to waterborne paint.
Owner Chris Womack spent 20 years in law enforcement before he changed careers to pursue his dream of owning a professional automotive shop. CW Restoration became a household name when they participated in Season 8 of the television show “Chop Cut Rebuild.” After the season ended, the 1941 Willys Coupe that Womack restored won a trophy at the 2012 Grand National Roadster Show. Since then, Womack partnered with Chip Foose Designs and Magnaflow Exhaust Systems to complete his latest restoration project, a 1949 Chevrolet 3100 Revolver, for “HotRodTV.”
These on-camera restoration projects, and volatile organic compound (VOC) regulations in the state of California, spurred Womack to reach out to Ingersoll Rand to find a better air compressor for his shop.
“We had our previous compressor for about 15 years, and it allowed water, oil and contaminants to pass through the lines,” said Womack. “We needed to eliminate those issues to prevent moisture and particles from mixing with the waterborne paint, which essentially ruins the finish on a car.”
He continued, “Our old compressor was so loud my techs couldn’t even talk to each other when it was running. It was a nightmare to film television segments with all the background noise.”

Womack worked with Arnel Compressor, the local Ingersoll Rand distributor, to identify CW’s needs and the best compressor for his paint booth. The solution was a 15 hp, 60 cfm UP Rotary Screw Air Compressor from Ingersoll Rand.
“I have four people working in my shop, and the new compressor can support air tools, orbital sanders and jet dryers in the paint booth running simultaneously,” said Womack. “As a result, the shop’s productivity and the quality of our paint jobs improved. And the new compressor is so quiet we can actually talk to customers and shoot TV episodes in the garage.”
“Our Ingersoll Rand rotary screw air compressor helped CW Restoration Shop win two Best in Show Awards at the 2012 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show this year in Las Vegas,” Womack said. “We received the Outstanding Achievement in Design Award for the custom paint job on a 2013 Ford Mustang GT, and the Best Mini Car Award for our work on a 2013 GM Spark.”
