Ingersoll-Rand Upgrades One of Its Most Popular Automotive Tools --The IR Street Legal™ ThunderGun®

ANNANDALE, N.J. — Ingersoll-Rand’s Productivity Solutions unit today announced that it has introduced an upgraded version one of its most popular automotive tool -- the “IR Street Legal™ ThunderGun®.”

The new 232 TGTi model is a 1/2 in. air-impact wrench that now incorporates heavy-duty titanium design and delivers increased speed, power and reliability, while incorporating the same compact design used in IR’s popular professional racing tools.

Built for everyday use in commercial service shops, the latest version of the ultra-duty Street Legal ThunderGun is modeled, in terms of design and performance, after the IR ThunderGun racing tool preferred by top NASCAR pit crews. One hundred percent of NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race teams rely on Ingersoll-Rand’s air impact tools.

The latest Street Legal ThunderGun improves on the best-in-class speed and power rating for commercial use of the original IR ThunderGun, delivering 10,000-rpm free speed and a torque range of 650 ft-lbs. in reverse.

“The reason why so many NASCAR teams and professional automotive mechanics rely on an IR’s Thunder Gun technology is simple -- it is the best product in its class and delivers unrivaled power, precision and reliability,” said Ray Evernham, a three-time NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion Crew Chief and team owner of Evernham Motorsports. “The latest Ingersoll-Rand’s Street Legal ThunderGun is just another example of how IR innovations continue to set new benchmarks for what automotive service technicians can expect in terms of performance from their tools and equipment.”

Weighing less than six pounds, the new IR 232 TGTi is easy to handle and is ideally suited for general auto service work including wheel/tire changing and under-car and hood applications, and engine repairs.

Part of Ingersoll-Rand's Industrial Productivity sector, the manufactures and markets a broad range of industrial and automotive tools, ergonomically advanced material handling systems, and engine starting systems, under the Ingersoll-Rand, ARO and Zimmerman brand names.
